This week I had a chat with a user of mediaSync who expressed frustration with the mechanism of deletion that mediaSync uses to remove media from the local library. In conversation with this supporter I became convinced that it may be a better idea to simply "move" the local media files from one location to another as opposed to deleting them. In the previous way of handling things if a mistake was made and tracks were removed from the remote device the net impact would be the removal of the library from the local disk as well - perhaps not a good thing. The application is sort of function...

Have you ever wanted to send a text message or maybe even make a telephone call from a command prompt of a Windows machine? Ok so a few days ago I posted about my frustrations with my PogoPlug device and for the record I still believe this to be a problem. I did however come up with something that will work as a work around for my problem. Be advised this is not for the noob but it also isn't so complicated that only an engineer can figure it out. Here is the basic problem. Most file backup or copy tools have some sort of mechanism to figure out what needs to be copied from source to destination. Many of these, in my experience, use file size or modified date as their key mechanism. They...

Have you seen these little things called PogoPlug devices? They are these little gadgets that allow you to hook up USB (or SD) storage volumes to the public Internet. There is software for most every flavor of operating environment, including all of the mobile options, that allows remote access to a bunch of "personal cloud" based storage. Their software even allows you to map drives to any one of your connected machines and access the defined shares points as if they were local a part of your local file system - neat right? The idea of hanging this little gem somewhere and then being able ...

Announcing a mechanism to connect @twilio with SQL server to place telephone calls and text messages in a single line of code through a simple .net library and supplied UDFs! Have you ever had a need to make your Microsoft SQL Server do some things that maybe it was not designed to do? I know in my experience I have used SQL server to control all sorts of business processes that technically were probably not the core function of a relational database system. Why would I do this? Because it is easy to do... there is a built in job controller and through creative scripting most anything can b...
